SOME TIPS BEFORE YOU BUY A CLAWFOOT TUB
Its important to us at Clawfoot Alley that you feel confident with your clawfoot tub purchase. There are some factors that are important to consider before choosing the right tub for your needs:
- Water Heater Suggestion: Verify that you have an adequate sized water heater
for your tub-filling needs. Generally its figured that about 65% of the tub's capacity will
be hot water. If a tub has a capacity of 60 gallons, 60 x .65(65%) = 39 = which means you
will need at least a 40 gallon water heater. If you do have a 40 gallon water heater,
after filling your 60 gallon tub there will be no hot water left until the water heater
has had time to heat more. Consider a smaller size tub if you're concerned about the amount
of hot water you will be using in your tub (or a larger water heater). Remember, smaller
tubs also cost you less on your water bill.
- Size: Clawfoot Alley ALWAYS recommends measuring before purchasing! PLEASE
measure the space available for your tub BEFORE ordering - you want your new tub to fit!
- Placement: You also want to be sure to check where the drain and water lines are in your floor. For a standard installation the drain will be at the front of the tub and the
supply lines come up through the floor 2-3 inches in front of the where the drain is, on 8 inch centers (where the water lines are). And remember, it's always a good idea to add stops to the supply lines in case something leaks and you need to turn the water off quickly.
